It predates their insanely intricate music videos (the song’s actually from 2002!), but the music video is still pretty tight. This is still my all-time favorite Ok Go song. It took the amazing chorus and made it OHMYGOD. This was the first Sleepyhead remix I’d downloaded and it’s still one of my favorite songs. It’s not top of the list anymore, but I still really, really like it when I listen to it. What did you expect to be at the top of this list, honestly? Sleepyhead was the king of my “most played” playlist for a long, long time. (Note: I’ve probably mentioned each of these at least once on here.

Well, since I have absolutely nothing else to blog about today, I figured I’d provide you with my favorite pre-2010 songs, since there are several ones that are damn awesome but kind of got cheated because I got them before 2010. So I’m a little bit more than halfway through my big Decade of Music project, right? And you know how at the end of each year since 2010 I’ve been giving you my yearly music reviews containing all the year’s five-stars and all that? The main issue I’m having is if I should do this cutting now or wait until my Decade of Music project is done so that the probability of a given song getting to be on the five-star list is the same for all the years in the decade.Īnd I’m sure I’ll blog about it when it does. Thirty songs? Twenty songs? I think anything less than that would cut out some of the true five-star songs, but I guess we’ll see. So because of that, I think I’m going to reduce my five-star limit. I’m excited to hear them, but not super excited.Ī five-star should be something I’m always super excited to hear. I’m finding that if I shuffle through my five-star playlist, there are a fair number of songs that I am no longer super excited to hear. Ever since I started rating my songs in iTunes, I’ve limited my number of five-star songs to 50. So as you’re all probably painfully aware of (since I talk about it quite a bit), my “Five Star” songs are the songs that I find to be the very best of the best of all my music. It’s time for another music-related post! Are you ready? So yay? The real test will be when I find my next “ZOMG THIS IS SO FANTASTIC” song and I have to go in and actually kick something off of the bold list above. Especially compared to the original list of 50 there were a good number that were very easily removed from Five Star status. I’d have a hard time picking any of those to be demoted. I want it to be really hard to knock a song off of this list – which, looking at the 25 bold songs, is true.

Algorithm (Alternate Reality Version) by Muse.NOTE: Blinding Lights is on here even though that is technically a post-Decade of Music song because I’m doing this thing so late after the end of the project that I’ve already managed to get another Five Star. So how about we do it “naturally” and just go through the list and see what we end up with? I’mma bold the ones that should remain Five Stars. But I’m not sure if that’s the best way to go about it. Originally, I figured I’d have an idea of how many songs could truly be Five Stars and I’d just go from there and cut out songs until I hit that total. And that’s what a Five Star should do: bring unadulterated joy. Why am I doing this, you ask? Because a Five Star song is a very special thing to me, and I feel like while I truly enjoy all 50 songs that are currently Five Stars, not all of them bring me unadulterated joy every single time they come up on Shuffle. My Decade of Music project is done and, like I promised I would, I must face the difficult (?) task of thinning out my Five Stars.
